Liverpool have beaten Premier League rivals to sign Derby's Will Hughes according to reports from the Sun.

Hughes was reportedly being tracked by the likes Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United.

However, according to the Sun, Brendan Rodgers has concluded a £12million deal for the midfielder.

The young playmaker made his first-team debut at only 16-years-old and has improved significantly over the last two years, having established himself as young of England's hottest prospects.

The highly-rated 18-year old made 35 appearances for Derby last season and has already scored three goals and made two assists in 15 league games this season. Hughes is also part of the England under-21 set-up and the Derby youngster has made five appearances for Gareth Southgate's side.

There has been no indication whether or not Hughes will return to Derby on loan but, either way, Liverpool have managed to pull off a real coup by winning the race for the young star's signature.

Hughes' signing further highlights Rodger's intent to build a young side at Liverpool and the deal will be completed when the transfer window opens in January.
