Juventus and Spain forward Fernando Llorente has questioned Diego Costa's recent decision to represent the current world and European champions instead of his native Brazil.

The Atletico Madrid striker has been in deadly form this season, scoring 13 goals in their opening 13 games - a run of form that has seen him linked with a move to the Premier League.

The 28-year-old rejected a call up to the Brazil national team - the place of his birth - to instead pledge his future to Vincente del Bosque's side, a decision questioned by his new international team mate.

"I am not upset that Diego Costa has chosen to play for Spain.

"Any player would want to play for the Spanish national team. Had I been in the same position as Costa, I would have chosen to represent the country of my birth but everyone is entitled to do whatever they want to do," he told Spanish newspaper AS.

The former Athletic Club Bilbao striker moved to Juventus in the summer, and was part of Spain's successful 2010 World Cup-winning campaign, as well as their victory at the European Championships last year.

With Costa deciding to ply his trade for the current world champions, it makes competition for places in Del Bosque's side even tougher with the likes of Fernando Torres, Alvaro Negredo and Roberto Soldado as well as Llorente and Costa vying for a spot in the 23-man squad for Brazil.

However, Llorente believes his move to the Italian giants this summer will aid him in his quest for a spot on the plane to South America.

"I am happy to have returned to the national team. It hasn't been an easy year for me but my transfer to Juventus has been a good thing."
