It comes as no surprise that Manchester United have not had the best of luck in the transfer windows in recent years.
Most notably the summer transfer window of 2013, where new Manchester United boss David Moyes missed out on a number of transfer targets. The names Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas, Thiago Alcantara and Leighton Baines were all thrown into the mill, none of which came to fruition.
A late move for Sami Khedira also resulted in failure and Manchester United had set their sights towards January, but now their proposed double bid to sign two of Madrid’s top stars has downgraded to a single bid, with a move for Angel Di Maria still on the cards.
Sami Khedira was unfortunately injured during his side's 1-1 draw against Italy and the scans revealed he tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, so any January move is now over.
Whether he can be fit in time for the World Cup, which still remains to be seen but Manchester United have not been quiet in the pursuit for the German midfielder, earlier this month David Moyes sent Phil Neville to watch both Sami Khedira and Angel Di Maria in action.
The injury Khedira has sustained will be a blow for Moyes, who is still looking for a marquee signing to make his stamp as Manchester United boss. But that injury could mean he now turns his attention to winger Angel Di Maria who has been a target for many clubs over the last year or so.
The likes of Anderson and Ashley Young could be looking for new clubs, as the club continues to search for creative talent, especially with the current crop of wingers failing to make a big impact, a winger is just what Moyes will need to either really make a difference, or get the likes of Valencia playing back at the top of their game.
But we can probably still expect David Moyes to be back in for Sami Khedira next summer, especially if he manages to reach full fitness in time for the World Cup.
