Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has declared that he must stay and fit and firing to keep his side in the Premier League title race, admitting that any drop in form could cost Manuel Pellegrini's men dear this season.

Aguero has enjoyed a fine start to the season at the Etihad, scoring 13 goals in 14 appearances to provide a high point in City's inconsistent start to the campaign.

The Argentine international feels that he is currently operating at close to the peak of his powers but cannot afford to suffer any slip in standards, rating himself as integral to City's chances of claiming silverware in a wide-open shootout at the top of Premier League.

He told reporters: "I'm playing well. I've had a good start to the season.

"Now I have to keep it up and play all the matches like that, so that people keep saying good things, otherwise we've got problems. I think the majority of my goals have helped the team get three points and that's very important.

"We have the squad to win the league and we need to be consistent. We must try to stop making mistakes away from home because, at the end of the season, it could make all the difference."

Pellegrini's side have been plagued by patchy away form so far this season, suffering four defeats on the road to trail Premier League leaders Arsenal by six points after 11 matches.

Aguero has done his best to end that wretched run, netting in three of City's last four away matches as a part of scoring streak which included goals in six successive league games.

The 25-year-old continued his impressive goal streak on international duty this week, bagging a brace for Argentina in a 2-0 win over Bosnia in St Louis on Monday night.
