Barcelona star Lionel Messi will receive the Golden Shoe award this afternoon, after scoring 46 goals during the 2012/13 campaign.
The 26-year-old, who is expected to be out of action until January with a hamstring injury, will be presented with the trophy by European Sports Media (ESM).
It will be the third time that Messi has won the prestigious individual award in his glittering career. He won it in 2009/10 after scoring 34 goals, while he also claimed it in 2011/12, after scoring a record-breaking 50 goals.
The Argentina international is also in contention to win the 2013 Ballon d'Or - although after Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick for Portugal on Sweden last night, it appears that the Real Madrid superstar could stop Messi from winning it for the fifth year in a row.
France international Franck Ribery is also in the running to win the Ballon d'Or after helping Bayern Munich win an historic treble, including the Champions League title.
Who deserves the Ballon d'Or: Messi, Ribery or Ronaldo?
