Gaston Ramirez's agent has revealed that the Uruguay midfielder has been the subject of several advances from Italian giants Inter Milan, reports talkSPORT.
His agent, Pablo Betancourt is set to meet Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese to discuss his clients future on the south coast.
Despite a bright start to life in England's top division, Ramirez has struggled this season and was not even in Mauricio Pochettino's match-day squad for their victory against Hull last weekend.
The £12million man is still held in high regard by Inter's chiefs though, with the club making a number of enquiries.
As a result, his representative Pablo Betancourt will speak to the Saints chairman to resolve Ramirez's future.
He told Calciomercatonews: "I have to meet with the chairman of the English club, and we have to check whether Ramirez will remain in the Premier League, or if he will return to Italy."
Southampton signed the 22-year-old from Bologna for a then club-record fee while Nigel Adkins was still in charge. Since his departure at the beginning of last season, however, the Uruguayan has fallen out of favour with new boss Pochettino.
With the player keen to claim a stake for his countries World Cup squad, time is of the essence according to his representative: "No matter where, it is important that this happens before the World Cup.
"Inter have already tried two or three times to sign him. Is Walter Mazzarri the ideal coach? With Inter, there are many South Americans there. He was raised in Italian football so it would be perfect."
