Lazio midfielder Ogenyi Onazi has rubbished quotes attributed to him that suggested he would be interested in a transfer to Liverpool, reports Sport Witness.
Earlier this week, the 20-year-old Nigeria international sparked speculation he was poised for a January move to the Premier League, after allegedly admitting that he would be open to a Merseyside switch.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to be keen to bring Onazi to Anfield when the transfer window reopens, and sent Liverpool scouts to watch the African star in action during Nigeria's 2-2 international friendly draw with Italy at Craven Cottage on Monday.
A fee of around £6million has been touted as enough to convince Lazio to sell, with Fiorentina also reportedly monitoring his situation in Rome.
However, any hopes Liverpool might have held of securing Onazi's signature have now been dealt a significant blow, after he denied saying that in an interview in the English capital.
"I came back from London yesterday morning, some people have told me that they've read this interview," he told TMW. "I did one interview in London, but I haven't been asked this question on Liverpool.
"This is very strange. I'm under contract with Lazio, I like Lazio and I'm fine here."
