Cristiano Ronaldo has hit a purple patch of form and has left critics and fans purring over his performances. He has been the man in form for Real Madrid and his country, Portugal, as well.

He raced out of the blocks this season, netting goals on a consistent basis. One can only wonder how he manages to deliver match winning performances every game and stay away from injury at the same time. He seems to be enjoying his football and all of his doubters have been silenced.

So overwhelming have his performances been, that he alone has scored more goals (63) in 2013 than any team in the English Premier League - his closest competition being Liverpool (60). He netted a hat-trick against Real Sociedad, which included a vintage Ronaldo free-kick.

His form at international level has been nothing short of exemplary. Faced with a tricky World Cup qualifying play-off tie against Sweden, he grabbed the match by the scruff of the neck and left his stamp of brilliance all over it.

He scored the only goal in the first leg in Portugal and also struck the post. What cemented his outstanding performance, though, was the brilliantly taken hat-trick in Sweden. He effortlessly carried the entire squad on his shoulders and proved to the world that he is the real deal this season.

With Lionel Messi out injured, Ronaldo seems to be reigning supreme over the football world this season and his goal scoring exploits have left everyone astounded. With Ronaldo in red-hot form and Gareth Bale gradually reaching the top level, Real Madrid will have an attacking duo that will tear opponent defences to shreds.

Bale may be the world's most expensive player, Messi may have four Balon d'Or awards, but Ronaldo is the best player in the world. Come January, few can dispute that the Balon d'Or will be awarded to the Portugese superstar.
