Entering this new season, not everyone had their money on Portland to be the second best team in the Western Conference early on.
In fact, questions were being asked if they were even good enough to make the playoffs. The Trail Blazers have answered that, yes, they are. They have begun the season with 10 wins and two losses and are currently tied for the longest streak in the league with San Antonio.
The Trail Blazers are one of the most underrated teams in the league and boast an underrated player at almost every position. At the point, there is reigning Rookie Of The Year Damian Lillard.
In only his second year as a pro, Lillard is already looking like an All-Star caliber player, netting 19.9 points per game. He has done great for the Blazers and could lead them deep into the playoffs.
At the two guard, Wesley Mathews takes the starting role. Just like Nicolas Batum at the three, he is a great shooter and has an underrated all-round game. LaMarcus Aldridge is at the power forward position and he is arguably the most underrated forward currently in the game.
The Blazers are finishing really strong and with a little bit more aggressive basketball they should be able to make more trips to the free throw line and record more points. When rookie C.J McCollum returns to the lineup, he will be sure to help improve the Blazers in that regard.
The big men are also an upside for the Blazers, putting them the third in offensive rebounding percentage. Robin Lopez was a great acquisition and English center Joel Freeland is starting to shine.
The only question now for the Trail Blazers is, can they keep it going? If they continue on the path they are on now, they are projected to finish 68-14.
That may be a bit of a reach but, for the Trail Blazers to finish any where above 50 wins would be a great accomplishment.
With Lillard and Aldridge at the helm, it may not be too much to ask.
