This weekend sees Everton host arch-rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park, so we have decided to rank the top five Premier League Merseyside derbies.
5. 13th March 2012 - Liverpool 3-0 Everton (Premier League)
The Merseyside Derby means nothing more to Liverpool's captain Steven Gerrard. On his 400th appearance for the club the legend done something so special. It means so much when he ever scores against Everton, however he went three times better. He scored a hat-trick against Everton to give them the win
4. 16th April 2001 - Everton 2-3 Liverpool (Premier League)
A truly thrilling game at Goodison. It had everything you look for in a Derby - chances, bad tackles and goals. Igor Biscan was sent off in the game and an 80th minute penalty from David Unsworth looked like he had clinched a point for his side. However in Liverpool's last attack in the 94th minute, Gary McAllister converted his 44 yard free kick past goalkeeper Paul Gerrard to give Liverpool the three points.
3. 4th February 2009 - Everon 1-0 Liverpool (aet) ( FA Cup 4th round replay)
This was the third Derby meeting within a month. Both had ended in a draw and this one looked like it was going to again. Liverpool lost Lucas Lieva after 76 minutes and survived the onslaught from the Blues.Yet, deep into injury time of extra time teenager Dan Gosling finally broke the deadlock in a season that saw Everton go on to reach the final of the FA Cup.
2. 3rd April 1999 - Liverpool 3-2 Everton (Premier League)
This really is a fixture known for controversial celebrations.
Prior to the game, there was strong rumour from Everton fans that Reds striker Robbie Fowler was on drugs. Everton took the lead after just 41 second through Olivier Decourt, however when Paul Ince was tripped inside the Everton penalty box the referee pointed to the penalty spot.
At the Anfield Road end in front of the Everton fans, there was only one man to step up and take it. Fowler slotted it into the bottom right corner and then ran towards the Everton fans and pretended to snort the white lined pitch markings.
Fowler was fined £32,000 by the FA, even after manager Gerard Houllier said it was a traditional Cameroon celebration he learnt off Rigobert Song.
1. 14th April 2012- Liverpool 2-1 Everton (FA Cup Semi Final)
What better than a Merseyside Derby at Wembley? A poor defensive mistake gave Everton the lead through Nikica Jelavic and then another error this time from Sylvan Distin allowed an easy goal for Luis Suarez to equalise.
Andy Carroll had missed numerous chances in the second half. The game was tense and chance were missed from either side. However with three minutes on the clock, a corner was whipped in and Carroll headed it into the back of the net to send the Reds into the FA Cup final.
