Arsenal score thanks to unbelievable goalkeeper howler

Southampton goalkeeper Artur Boruc gifted Arsenal a goal with a quite baffling and embarrassing howler at The Emirates Stadium.

With both sides having enjoyed fantastic starts to the new Premier League season, all eyes were on this encounter between the Gunners and the Saints in North London.

With Southampton having already produced solid performances against the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United so far this season, hopes were high that Mauricio Pochettino's men could provide an upset against Arsene Wenger's league leaders.

However, the visitors were certainly not helped by an inexplicable error from Polish international Boruc.

With the scores level at 0-0 after 20 minutes, Boruc received the ball from his own defender inside the Southampton penalty area under little pressure.

Instead of clearing, however, Boruc panicked with the presence of onrushing French striker Olivier Giroud and got himself in a bizarre muddle that led to Giroud nipping in to give Arsenal the lead.
