Manchester City humiliated Tottenham this afternoon as Manuel Pellegrini's side beat the north London outfit 6-0 at the Etihad.
Spurs were behind in the opening 30 seconds as a poor kick from goalkeeper Hugo Lloris found the feet of Sergio Aguero, who then had his shot saved by the Spurs keeper, only for Jesus Navas to strike home in spectacular fashion as he lofted the ball over Lloris.
Totenham eased their way back into the game and had a couple of decent chances as the game hit the half hour mark, however with just over 10 minutes remaining until half-time, City struck again as Sandro put the ball through his own goal.
But City weren't done before half-time as Sergio Aguero got in on the act to tap home from six yards. The Argentine then started the second half as he finished the first with another goal to make it 4-0 after fine work from Yaya Toure.
Tottenham, who had brought on Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor at half-time, just had no answer to City as the continued to roar forward.
And, it wasn't a surprise when the Citizens hit their fifth of the afternoon. Alvaro Negredo scored the goal of the day with an extraordinary turn and a fine finish into the top of Spurs' goal past Lloris.
Jesus Navas, who scored the first of the afternoon, then completed the scoring in stoppage time as he was put through against Tottenham's lackluster defence to make it 6-0.
A quite miserable day for Andre Villas-Boas as his side drop to ninth, however Manuel Pellegrini will be over the moon with his side's performance. Another thumping win at the Etihad for City certainly puts down a statement to their title rivals as they climb the Premier League table.
It doesn't get any easier for Tottenham as they host Premier League champions Manchester United in their match, whilst City turn their attentions to Europe as they take on Viktoria Plzen at the Etihad on Wednesday.
