Chelsea and Arsenal may lose out on the signing of long-term striker target Jackson Martinez after it was revealed that Inter Milan are planning a €20million swoop for him in January.

According to sources in Portugal the Porto forward, who has scored an incredible 34 goals in 40 league games, has been targeted by the Italian giants as new owner Erik Thohir aims to strengthen the squad in the wake of his takeover.

Martinez has been targeted by Jose Mourinho this year as the Special One wants to improve his frontline.

The Blues have been following the Colombian star for a while now and he has been linked with a transfer to Stamford Bridge in the past, but it's mooted that the coming transfer window presents the first realistic period in which he may leave Portugal.

Earlier this month it was reported that Martinez is finally prepared to leave Porto, providing he is guaranteed extended game-time in one of Europe's top leagues, which hints at the fact that he is ready to now make a step up in terms of the level of competition he is facing.

Arsenal have also been linked with the 27-year-old, who has a reported minimum fee release-clause of €40million, but both Premier League giants could lose out if Inter decide to step up the chase in the New Year.
