Arsenal set to choose Romania star ahead of £67m pair

Arsenal are considering a move for Getafe striker Ciprian Marica in favour of more-expensive options, according to French newspaper Le 10 Sport.

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a number of strikers for the coming January transfer window, as it's rumoured he is looking to provide an alternate option to current frontman Olivier Giroud.

Both Karim Benzema and Luis Suarez have been heavily linked with moves to the Emirates in the New Year, having found themselves close to moves in the summer. However Wenger is now set to bring in a far cheaper option in order to keep funds for other purchases.

Marica, who has played for Dynamo Bucharest, Shakhtar Donetsk and Schalke 04 is as well travelled as they come and the Romanian is available for far less than either Benzema or Suarez.

The former of those two is said to be valued at around £27million by Real Madrid whilst Liverpool want at least £40million for Suarez.

Another point that could be of interest to Wenger in the chase for Marica is Tottenham's reported interest in the 28-year-old, with AVB desperate to remedy his own striking woes.

The Gunners boss will know that in one move he could raise his own stock whilst dealing a blow to his biggest rivals, which will surely play some sort of factor.
