Chelsea could be set to step up their long-standing pursuit of Jackson Martinez and Nicolas Otamendi, with reports suggesting that the Premier League title contenders scouted the pair once again this weekend.
According to reports from Portuguese newspaper A Bola that were cited by talkSPORT, Jose Mourinho sent representatives to watch the duo perform during FC Porto's disappointing 1-1 home draw with Nacional at the Estadio do Dragao on Saturday.
Chelsea have been continuously linked with both players in the last few months, with the West London outfit evidently looking to strengthen their squad sufficiently for a sustained title assault in the new year.
Given the repeated struggles of forward trio Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o, a new striker looks to be of paramount importance for Mourinho.
Colombian marksman Martinez - reportedly valued by Chelsea at around £35 million - could certainly bolster the attack at Stamford Bridge, with the 27-year-old having been in formidable form of late.
After notching an incredible 26 goals in 20 league outings last season, the former Chiapas star has already scored seven goals in six games so far this season.
Otamendi, meanwhile, is a 25-year-old centre-back who has been at Porto since arriving in Portugal from Velez Sarsfield in 2010. The Argentine has also won 16 senior international caps.
A Chelsea swoop for that particular target could indicate that Mourinho is planning for a future without the ageing John Terry or indeed David Luiz, with the Brazilian international having been linked with a move to La Liga champions Barcelona.
Chelsea could face stiff competition for the aforementioned Porto pair however, with speculation suggesting that Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are also interested in Martinez. Similarly, Otamendi - believed to be valued at around £25 million - is believed to have attracted attention from the likes of Serie A giants AC Milan.
