Arsenal increased their lead at the top of the table on Saturday afternoon by four points after beating Southampton 2-0. The Gunners put in a valiant effort and came away with the three points against a very tough Saints side.
Liverpool dropped points in their 3-3 draw to Merseyside rivals Everton, this makes the gunners' victory even more impressive and important. The EPL table is starting to break up with Manchester United drawing on Sunday night to Cardiff City.
Manchester City also pulled off an ecstatic 6-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur however they are still six points behind Arsenal, and now Spurs are eight points off the pace in ninth place. If Arsenal win the title this year, this win over Southampton could be seen as one of the most important wins of the season.
Southampton showed how much of a force they have been become since the takeover of management by Mauricio Pochettino. They kept 51 per cent of the possession and had more shots and corners.
I'm sure Arsenal knew that Southampton would not go down easily, unlike last season, but I don't think the players and manager suspected they would be as competitive. To keep the majority of the ball against Arsenal, at the Emirates is a real achievement, making the victory all the more impressive.
Two goals from Olivier Giroud were the difference, however, the goals were one from a mistake by Artur Boruc and the other was penalty, but still two goals to add to his Arsenal tally.
But Arsenal fans realise how big this win is at the moment? I don't know, but it is another brilliant victory for the gunners and they now have Cardiff away next Saturday to prepare for and it should be another three points.
Arsenal have shown they have the mentality to win the title this season, even though it is only November, Arsenal fans can now believe, believe that this will finally be the year the club ends it's eight year goal drought. The win this weekend will be responsible for the title success if it comes this season.
