Dutch tennis coach Sven Groeneveld has been named the new coach of Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova .
The female tennis player made the announcement on her official Facebook page.
"I'm happy with Sven. Since I'm back on the court, we have trained all together. The transition has come smoothly and I 've had many fun in the work that we have done. I look forward to the coming years," she added.
The Russian broke last July with her Swedish coach Thomas Högstedt , with whom she worked for nearly three years before the American former top player Jimmy Connors became her personal trainer. However, within a month they both parted company.
Groeneveld was an old tennis player but he never made it to the top - ranking 826th place in the ATP ranking.
However, as a coach he helped three different players win Grand Slam titles in Monica Seles (Australian Open/1992) , Mary Pierce (Australian Open/1995) and Ana Ivanovic (Roland Garros/2008).
The Dutch tennis coach has rendered his service to top tennis players like Arantxa Sanchez , Caroline Wozniacki, Sania Mirza, Michael Stich, Fernando Verdasco, Andy Murray and Ana Ivanovic.
