Bayern Munich star Franck Ribery appears confident that he can win the race to be crowned 2013 Ballon d'Or winner.
It is a very bold statement to make, especially after the start to the season that rival Cristiano Ronaldo has had.
The Portuguese star has already netted five hat-tricks this season and has scored 25 goals for Real Madrid in just 18 appearances. In comparison, Ribery has only netted nine times.
It’s not all about goals, though. Both players have had great starts to the season but for Ribery to hint that he deserves the award is perhaps somewhat controversial. It is certainly a topic up for discussion and, at this moment in time, the majority of the public seem to be backing Ronaldo to win the award.
"It's true that Ronaldo scores goals, but I do too. He certainly scores more than I do, but we don't have the same style. I may not score in every match, but I set defences on fire," Ribery was quoted by Spanish newspaper Marca.
"I caused three players to get sent off in two games and I was involved in the three French goals at the Stade de France."
The player went on to say he is "confident" that he will win the award. It is sure to be a highly anticipated event when the winner is announced.
Many people believe it will be Ronaldo’s year after Lionel Messi was ruled out of action for a substantial amount of time due to injury.
It would be no surprise either, as the Madrid ace has set the world alight, putting in numerous outstanding performances for both club and country.
Ronaldo helped Portugal qualify for the 2014 World Cup after a sublime hat-trick against Sweden. That was just one of many of his highlights so far this season.
