Controversial midfielder Joey Barton has riled Arsenal supporters by appearing to criticise the atmosphere in the stands during Tuesday night's 2-0 victory over Marseille in the Champions League.
Former Manchester City star Barton, who now represents Championship outfit Queens Park Rangers and had a successful loan spell with the Ligue 1 outfit last season, attended the fixture at the Emirates Stadium and reportedly sat among the travelling fans.
Arsenal proved comfortable victors thanks to a brace from Jack Wilshere, and while Barton acknowledged the formidable strength of Arsene Wenger's charges, he just could not resist a subtle jibe at the club's expense.
"Very difficult game tonight... #allezLOM," the 31-year-old said via his Twitter account.
"So quiet here tonight at Highbury... Pity about the result. Arsenal much too strong tonight...."
Arsenal, who remain top of the Premier League following Saturday's 2-0 win over fellow high-flyers Southampton on Saturday, still have not qualified for the first knockout phase of the Champions League, but will do so if they avoid a 3-0 defeat in their final game away to Rafael Benitez's Napoli next month.
The Gunners return to domestic action on Saturday with an away tie against newly-promoted Cardiff City.
