When footballers join their fans in the stands (1)

Joey Barton is the latest footballer to take to the terraces after he was pictured amongst the Marseille supporters during last night's Champions League defeat against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The Queens Park Rangers midfielder took the opportunity to show his support for the Ligue 1 club, following a favourable loan spell at Stade Vélodrome last season.

Élie Baup's much-changed side were well beaten on the night, and remain pointless at the bottom of Group F, but fans were at least given some reason to be cheerful, after spotting former favourite Barton in the stands.

The 31-year-old was happy to pose for photographs, and partake in a sing-song with the Marseille following, and also seized the chance to have a little dig at the "quiet" atmosphere at Arsenal.

It seems that mixing it with the fans is on-trend at the moment, with numerous examples of other players - past and present - joining the 'away day' bandwagon.

Click through the tabs - above or below - to check out five other footballers who were recently spotted among supporters, and feel free to add any other examples in the comment box at the bottom of this article!
