Although most managers must surely loathe it and the potential disruption and sheer unadulterated misery that it can cause, the January transfer window remains a truly exciting time for football fanatics across the globe.

For teams competing for silverware and trophies, January is a timely opportunity to bolster the ranks in pursuit of the ultimate glory. Whilst for teams fighting against the perils of relegation, it a perfect chance to bring in the reinforcements necessary to help in the daunting battle against the drop.

With the 2014 January window approaching quickly on the horizon, the rumour mill concerning a number of top Premier League sides potentially making new additions has already gone in to overdrive.

Among the plethora of rumours are several players who are reportedly subject to interest from several of England's biggest sides.

Here, GMS lists six potentially epic transfer battles that could occur in the Premier League this winter and passes judgement on who is most likely to win the race for each player.
