Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has backed the club's £42.4m record signing Mesut Ozil to improve in the near future.
Mertesacker believes his teammate is currently in good form - but insists the best is yet to come from his fellow German, who missed a penalty during Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Marseille in the Champions League group stages.
"Mesut has made good progress. He is in good form and you can see that," Mertesacker told reporters. "He was always a threat (against Marseille) and he never gave up after the penalty that he missed.
"We are very delighted with him, especially in the transition from defence to offence, when he is always a threat.
"He can play the balls, he is the one who always goes deep all of the time. He is in good form and I think we will see more."
However, Mertesacker indicated that Ozil's head dropped after missing that penalty against Marseille, but perked up in the second half following an encouraging half-time conversation with his teammates.
The towering centre-back added: "Sometimes he looks like his head is going down, but we said at half-time that we do not care (about the missed penalty). We just go on and that is what he did."
Ozil has scored three goals in 15 appearances since arriving at the Emirates Stadium in September, while he has also contributed a handful of assists.
