Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has praised Antonio Valencia and Ryan Giggs following the club's emphatic 5-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last night.
Rooney was the catalyst behind the win that secured United's progression to the last 16 of the tournament, providing a magnificent performance that saw him a play a crucial role in four of his team's goals.
The 28-year-old provided a delightful chip for Valencia's opener after 22 minutes, saw his free-kick nestle in the back of the net via the head of the unfortunate Emir Spahic and was also instrumental in the goals scored by Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.
However, despite his own superb display, following the result, the England international was keen to point out the excellent contributions of two teammates in particular.
"Great result last night and through to the knockout stages! A brilliant team performance with plenty of goals. Two stand out players for me were Antonio Valencia who was unstoppable on the right wing, and Ryan Giggs, his composure on the ball is second to none," Rooney told his official Facebook page.
Rooney even amusingly revealed that one beleaguered Leverkusen defender was incredulous as to how Giggs was still playing, given his advanced years.
"Giggsy is 40 tomorrow, at one point last night the Leverkusen centre-half came up to me and asked how he is still playing at that age, that speaks volumes on how good he is!" he added.
Manchester United, who still have one remaining group game to contend with against Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk at Old Trafford next month, return to domestic action on Sunday with a trip to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham Hotspur.
