NBA legend Kobe Bryant looks likely to end his career with the LA Lakers after the shooting guard signed a two-year contract extension with the franchise on Monday, that will expire when he is 37.

Bryant has been with the Lakers for the entirety of his professional basketball career, and has established himself as one of the greatest players the sport has ever seen.

His new deal will see Bryant earn $48.5 million over its duration and take his total salary earnings with the Lakers, since his first contract in 1997, beyond a whopping $328 million.

Bryant's extension represents a relative paycut, with the 35-year-old earning over $30 million during the current season alone, despite not having played in a single one of the Lakers' 14 matches due to injury.

He will, however, remain the highest paid player in the NBA even when after the expiration of his present contract, with an income some $11 million superior to MVP and Miami Heat superstar LeBron James.

But how does Bryant's salary compare to other prominent sporting stars such as Floyd Mayweather and Cristiano Ronaldo? Here are the top earners from eight of the most high-profile sports in the world...
