FC Porto and Colombia striker Jackson Martinez is nearing a £33million move to Chelsea, according to the London Metro.

He was previously linked with a move to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, however, no moved materialised, despite being in form for club and country scoring 34 goals last season.

The player joined Porto two seasons ago, signing from Mexican team Chiapas and currently has eight goals for his country.

Chelsea had problems signing a Colombian in the summer when Radamel Falcao joined Monaco instead of the Blues, and they will not be happy if this move collapses as well.

However, with Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto'o already at Chelsea and a possible new arrival, there will be fierce competition for places in Jose Mourinho's attack.

The impact of Martinez may help Chelsea's season, but with goals going in at the wrong end, the signing may not make a lot of difference.
