Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been named in the UEFA Team of the Week following his fine individual display against Marseille on Tuesday night.
The England international scored both goals for the Gunners in a convincing win against their French opponents, putting Arsene Wenger’s side on the brink of qualification to the knockout phase.
Wilshere opened the scoring in the first minute at the Emirates Stadium, cutting in from wide on the right and curling the ball past the keeper with his left foot.
He doubled the advantage for Arsenal midway through the second period, connecting with Mesut Ozil’s slide ball across goal and firing low into the net.
Victory puts the Gunners top of their Champions League Group F with 12 points, and only a three-goal reverse in Napoli could see the north London outfit crash out of Europe’s elite club competition.
Wilshere was the only Arsenal representative after gameweek five, although he’s joined by a couple of Premier League colleagues.
Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans made the cut following Manchester United’s 5-0 victory in Germany, whilst Arjen Robben, Arturo Vidal and Marco Reus are also in the all-star XI.
