Manchester United are desperate to beat off competition from rival sides to win the race to sign Dundee United teenager Ryan Gauld, according to the Dundee Evening Telegraph.

The Scottish starlet, who has scored five goals in 15 games for Dundee United this season, is being tracked by several Premier League sides.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Everton have all joined Manchester United in watching Gauld in action.

The aforementioned clubs have a chance to run the rule over Gauld again tonight, as he is likely to feature for Dundee United against Kilmarnock on Friday night.

Attacking midfielder Gauld, who has been dubbed the 'baby Messi', has already played eight games for Scotland's Under-19 side and earned his first Under-21 call up at the beginning of November.

Reports suggest Manchester United boss David Moyes has decided to take charge of his side's efforts to sign the highly-rated Scotsman.

Manchester United, who could kick off a potential bidding war for Gauld in January, are said to be planning a £2million move for the youngster.
