Man United & Chelsea face struggle for €50m Serbian star

Monaco are desperate to force themselves to the front of the pack in the race for Benfica star Nemanja Matic, according to Portuguese source O Jogo.

The 25-year-old Serbian has been heavily linked with Manchester United and is also being targeted by the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea, but the French title challengers harbour hopes of bringing him to Ligue 1.

It is believed that they are targeting the playmaker, who has a contract with Benfica which runs until 2018, in a bid to strengthen a midfield which already boasts former Portuguese League star Joao Moutinho.

Matic has a release clause in his contract of around €50million, but reports have emerged suggesting that United could be offered him for as little as £20million.

Whilst that may be the case, David Moyes will have to move decisively if he wants to bring Matic to Old Trafford. The Scot knows he can ill-afford another wasteful transfer window and Monaco will likely provide stiff competition for the former Chelsea star due to their inexhaustible funds.
