It doesn't take a genius to be able to tell when a player is performing well.
However to tell when a player is performing better than a pier, it's generally good practise to fall back on stats to provide a perfectly neutral opinion.
And the figure that is probably the most telling of a players good form is the amount of man of the match awards he can accumulate over the course of the season.
It's the fairest way to determine which stars have been playing their socks off week in week out, regardless of their position, notoriety or amount of goals they may have scored.
We used stats gathered from WhoScored.com to see who has really been topping the lists in this respect so far this year.

*NOTE (I) - In order to separate players who have accumulated the same tally of man of the match awards this year, we've opted to place those who have played less games higher up, as they could feasibly move ahead when they catch up on the matches.
(II) - We've also set a minimum cap of seven appearances for the season on players. This rules out certain figures having played two games and managed to get themselves a fantastic ratio in terms of man of the match awards/ appearances made.
