Arsenal have been labelled heavy favourites to sign Schalke 04's wanted starlet Julian Draxler.
The German winger has been linked to both Chelsea and Manchester United in recent weeks as he continues to impress in the Bundesliga.
But reports in his native Germany are claiming that Arsenal are the big favourites to secure his signature.
German journalist Jan Aage Fjortoft, who correctly predicted that Mesut Ozil will join the Gunners in the summer, says Wenger is in constant contact with the 20-year-old and are in the best position to sign him.
Speaking on Twitter, Fjortoft said: "I understand Arsenal are big favourite to get Schalke's Wonderkid Julian Draxler.
"I understand Wenger talk [sic] to him often."
The reports from Fjortoft follow quotes from the player himself, who hinted that he would be interested in a move to the Premier League.
He also revealed that he regularly talks to his German team mates Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski about life Arsenal.
He told reporters: “I’ve always said English teams are very big clubs and Arsenal are one of them. I sometimes speak to Mesut or Per about the team, about the club, and they always have good words.”
Fjortoft went on to confirm that Draxler's release clause is a huge €45m - a fee that Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United are all capable of meeting.
Jose Mourinho is believed to be particularly keen on bringing Draxler to Stamford Bridge, after he impressed in the Champions League meeting between the two clubs.
However, with Draxler having such little experience it remains to be seen whether the Gunners, Mourinho or David Moyes deem the €45m asking price as value for money.
