Tim Tebow returned to his alma mater to deliver a pep talk, but his inspring words could not make the difference as the Gators lost a seventh straight match.

The Seminoles routed their rivals 37-7 with a dominant display inspired by QB Jameis Winston, condemning Florida to their worst loss in scholl history and first losing season since 1979.

No.2 Florida State are now 12-0 and look set to compete in the Bowl Championship Series by defeating Duke next week.

In a bid to inspire his players to turn their fortunes around, coach Will Muschamp turned to Heisman Trophy winner Tebow to give the players a pep talk.

Lineman Max Garcia described the talk and insisted it had inspired him, saying: "It really penetrated my soul. And it was real."

Tebow, who is rumoured to be looking for a broadcast position, spoke to the Gators locker room about overcoming adversity and bouncing back.

"A man can get down and come back withered, can come back beaten. But a man that goes down and comes back and is changed and is different, that's who we are; that's who the Gators are," were his words, according to Yahoo Sports.

The Gators will now miss out on a Bowl game for the first time since 1990 and Muschamp's position has been questioned, especially after offensive coordinator Brent Pease was sacked only a day after the defeat.
