FIFA have announced the five-man goalkeeper shortlist for the FIFPRo Team of the Year.

In a new approach, the governing body will stagger the unveiling of the candidates for the different positions in the team across the week ahead of the Ballon d'Or gala in January during which the team will be announced.

The shortlists for the defenders, midfielders and forwards will be announced and published on FIFA.com on 4, 6 and 9 December respectively.

As for today's announcement, Manuel Neuer leads the way on the five-man shortlist having being named as the only goalkeeper candidate for the Ballon d'Or.

The Bayern Munich shotstopper is joined by Juventus' Gianluigi Buffon and Barcelona's Victor Valdes.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas is a surprise inclusion considering he has lost his position as undisputed number one at the Bernabeu to Diego Lopez in recent months.

Petr Cech of Chelsea is the only Premier League goalkeeper to make the cut.

The World XI team is voted for by the 50,000 members of FIFPro, who vote for their peers in a secret ballot.

Fans across the world will find out who makes the final XI at the BAllon d'Or gala, which takes place in Zurich in January 13.
