As any player of FIFA knows, pace is very important in the new game. But strength is definitely an underrated stat when it comes to gameplay.

A strong defender can cancel out a quick run around the back by blocking the striker’s run, whereas a strong striker can shrug defenders off the ball when they try to tackle him.

Here are the top 11 strongest players in the game (excluding in-form players on Ultimate Team), with stats provided by Futhead.

Daniel van Buyten – 94

The Bayern Munich defender is very strong in defense and is very difficult to overcome when jostling for the ball.

Djibril Konaté – 94

This defender, who plays for Anders SCO in Ligue 2, has little to offer in terms of his other stats, but his strength makes him a very difficult player to attack against.

Achille Emana – 94

The Cameroonian midfielder has decent all round stats, but his strength stands out. He plays for Cruz Azul in the LIGA Bancomer MX – and is able to thread his passes around the pitch due to no-one getting close to him.

Miguel Aceval – 94

Aceval is a defender for CD Huachipato in the Camp. Petrobras league. The Chilean has just 40 pace, but his strength gives him the edge against his opponents.

Ariel Nahuelpán – 94

The Argentinian striker is a nightmare for defenders as he’s so strong. He players for UNAM in the LIGA Bancomer MX and dominates defences with his strength.

Moustapha Sall – 94

The Saint Etienne defender has good defensive stats, making him a difficult player for strikers to get the better of when competing for the ball.

Wilfried Bony – 94

Swansea’s new Ivorian striker is the best-rated player on this list at 80. He is a strong player who can out-muscle defenders before unleashing an unstoppable strike.

Lacina Traoré – 94

The Anzhi striker plays in the Russian League and causes big problems with his pace combined with his incredible strength – he’s a defender’s worst nightmare.

George Elokobi – 95

The Wolves left-back is a great defender, mostly down to his almost unbeatable strength – many wingers would come off worst if they battled with this Cameroonian for the ball.

Felipe Baloy – 96

The second strongest player in the game is Baloy, who players for Santos Laguna in the LIGA Bancomer MX. The Panama defender is a great defender and could muscle and boss all but one striker in the game…

Adebayo Akinfenwa – 97

…And that man is Akinfenwa. The Gillingham striker is famous for his huge frame which gives him unmatchable strength. If a defender tries to tackle this guy, they go flying. The Englishman is a dominant force in attack and there’s no chance of ever out-muscling this lad to the ball.
