Sepp Blatter's time has expired

Ridiculed and openly mocked on television by the supposed leader of a major footballing governing body, Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo decided to take a defiant stand against FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

This has intensified the opinion shared by many that the Swiss's out of touch methods and his extremely poor handling of the media are detrimental to the sport.

His mercurial temperament and insensitive comments on fundamental issues of the game have had a damaging impact on the integrity of FIFA, this has backed the football association into an uncomfortable position which, to retain any credibility, needs to seriously consider severing ties with Blatter.

In 2011 he infamously said the following in an interview with CNN World Sport: "I would deny it. There is no racism, there is maybe one of the players towards another, he has a word or a gesture which is not the correct one, but also the one who is affected by that.

"He should say that this is a game. We are in a game, and at the end of the game, we shake hands, and this can happen, because we have worked so hard against racism and discrimination."

This despicable and horrid attitude towards underlying racial problems are further inflaming the problem and denial within the highest reaches of football, then it is impossible to expect real change under the corrupted regime of Sepp Blatter.

With Ronaldo's fierce stand, maybe others of influence will finally see a need to alter the current direction and abolish ideals that are problematic to any hopes of a unified football community. Is FIFA an irrelevant body? How can they address vital issues that are present in the modern day sport?
