Detroit Red Wings have been dealt an injury blow after captain Henrik Zetterberg was ruled out of action for a minimum of two weeks with a back injury, reports NHL.com.
The 33-year-old Swede had been enjoying another impressive campaign at the Joe Louis Arena, having posted 11 goals and 19 assists in the 28 games played so far.
Zetterberg had been an ever-present for Mike Babcock's Red Wings this year - who are currently on a four-game winning streak - but will now be forced to watch on from the sidelines after suffering a herniated disc.
Detroit are currently tied second in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, and will be hoping that the absence of their influential leader will not damage their push for the playoffs.
Much of the responsibility will be placed at the door of top scorer Pavel Datsyuk, who will be tasked with maintaining the Red Wings' impressive form in the absence of Zetterberg.
