Arsenal & Chelsea striker target finds form after weight loss advice

Arsenal and Chelsea striker target Karim Benzema was advised to lose weight by Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane, according to reports.

Le 10 Sport cite reports in Spain when claiming that the French legend, currently working as assistant manager to Carlo Ancelotti at the Santiago Bernabeu, told his compatriot to drop five pounds in an effort to become physically sharper.

The advice worked, according to the report, with Benzema scoring six goals in six games since the discussion with the football legend – as well as four assists.

Benzema’s future in the Spanish capital has been up for debate in recent months, with constant speculation that the 25-year-old could leave La Liga for the Premier League.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is a reported admirer, with The Daily Express claiming the north London outfit is ready to offer £27million for the player in January.

The Gunners are relatively short of options in attack at the Emirates Stadium, with Olivier Giroud leading the line and Nicklas Bendtner his only back-up.

Benzema would provide Arsenal with another world class option in attack, but his recent fine form must cast doubt over a move to England.

Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the player, as Jose Mourinho assesses his option in attack at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues boss has Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto’o and Demba Ba at his disposal in west London, but none of the trio have been able to make the position their own.

Benzema would add even more competition to the Chelsea strikers, but again a move now looks less likely after this drop in weight and run of form.
