Manchester United on alert as Inter prepare clear-out

Inter Milan president Erick Thohir is planning a major clear-out in January to raise funds for a spending spree - with two Manchester United transfer targets potentially available.

According to the Daily Express, Inter Milan centre-back Andrea Ranocchia has been linked with United, as well as Chelsea and Tottenham, ever since he failed to agree terms on a new Inter Milan contract.

And Fredy Guarin, the Colombian international midfielder, could also be available in the January transfer window.

The Inter Milan star has been linked with United following his agent's claims that David Moyes was interested in his client over the summer.

Thohir, the new Inter Milan president, would prefer to keep Ranocchia and Guarin - two influential first-team stars - but he'll only be able to achieve this if he successfully offloads a number of squad players first.

Alvaro Pereira and Zdravko Kuzmanovic are the two players mentioned by the report as facing the immediate chop in the winter window.

But with Inter targeting Pablo Osvaldo and Edin Dzeko among others, Thohir may have to part with some of his better players to raise the required cash.

That would put Ranocchia and Guarin on the transfer market, with United potentially waiting in the wings to pounce.

United are expected to strengthen their midfield in the January transfer window, and the 27-year-old Guarin would be a significant upgrade on the likes of Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Ryan Giggs.
