Earlier this summer Barcelona introduced its away kit that would be used in away matches where the opponents stripes would match the ones of the first blaugrana kit of the club.
This second kit of Barcelona features colours of the official flag of Catalonia. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia. With this action they send a very powerful message all over the world. A message which shows the respect and the support that Barcelona has for Catalonia.
Up to here everything is fine but something unexpected happened. The first time that these stripes were used by Barcelona was during a friendly match against Bayern Munich. Barcelona lost 2-0 in that match but as usually in friendly matches no one cares about the result. So no harm was done.
The second match was the Spanish Super Cup against Atletico Madrid. That match ended with a 1-1 draw. The third match of this second kit of Barcelona was away against CA Osasuna. That match also ended in a draw and more specifically in a 0-0 draw.
The fourth match was against AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League at San Siro in a match where Milan got the head in the score early in the game and Barcelona managed only to equalise with, who else, Lionel Messi.
The fifth match that Barcelona has played so far with these stripes during this season is the one against Athletic Club in Bilbao during the weekend. Tata Martino and his Barcelona did not manage to escape with the anything from that match. Barcelona lost 1-0 and that copleted a five match combo in which Barcelona did not manage to win.
The common element in those five matches is the jersey. Barcelona used in all these matches the second kit of the season, meaning the one with red and yellow stripes on it representing the official flag of Catalonia.
Some of Barcelona's supporters from all over the world have already stated that this jersey is cursed and that Barcelona would have to discard it sooner than later. I personally believe that simply its the end of Barcelona's era and that there is no issue with any stripes being cursed. What is your opinion?
