Barcelona look set to lose another starlet from their famed La Masia academy in the form of Antonio Sanabria and Arsenal were billed as favourites to snap him up - but it now appears their chances of signing him could be threatened by a close rival.
According to Sport, Chelsea are pondering over whether to make a last-ditch offer to the Paraguayan forward, something unlikely to please Arsene Wenger or the Gunners moneymen.
Sanabria is only 17 but has already showed signs of potential to become a very effective attacker and Barcelona's attempts to organise a new contract were to no avail, with the report in Sport claiming they are resigned to losing him after he rejected their latest offer.
Arsenal have a good track record of developing young talent at Emirates Stadium, with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott all performing to a high level after a few years under Wenger's tutelage.
However, Chelsea's involvement would make money an issue and, while the Gunners now have improved spending power, they are still no match for the billions at the disposal of Roman Abramovich.
The report claims Serie A club AS Roma are another of the interested parties, while Ligue mega-spenders PSG are also keeping tabs on the situation.
