Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning delighted fans with a response to a random wedding invitation he received in the post, reports NFL.com.
The 37-year-old sent his RSVP five weeks after the card was actually due, and three weeks after the wedding itself.
Just as well then, that the Broncos star "regretfully declined" the offer to attend Anna and James Bozard's special day.
He did though include a personal note for the happy couple, and signed his name with a trademark No.18 on the invitation, which will now be framed and given pride of place at the Bozard family home.
"I always loved watching him and admired the wonderful person that he was," Anna - a lifelong Peyton Manning fan - was quoted by ESPN. "Getting the response totally sealed my thoughts about him.
"He's a good-natured and good-hearted person. I'm so excited he took the time to do what he did. I'm going to put it in a nice frame."
After posting the invitation to the Sports Authority Field at Mile High address - which cane be found on the Denver Broncos' website - the fun-loving pair thought they had little chance of hearing back from their hero, but were delighted when the response turned up in the mailbox of the mother of the bride, at her Virginia home.
