Zlatan Ibrahimovic was fortunate not to receive more severe sanction during Paris Saint-Germain's defeat to Evian on Wednesday, with the striker only booked for pole-axing Jonathan Mensah with a kung-fu style challenge.
PSG saw their 26-game unbeaten run come to an end with a 2-0 defeat at the Parc des Sports, but the evening could have been far worse had Ibrahimovic received more suitable punishment for his clash with Mensah.
While Ibrahimovic was lucky to escape a sending off, Mensah was lucky to avoid serious injury after the studs of the Sweden captain came careering into his face. The defender may have ended up bruised, but at least his endeavours were in the pursuit of three points.
Ibrahimovic, on the other hand, was left fuming by the defeat, which he believes will provide a reality check for PSG as they bid to defend the Ligue 1 title they won last season.
"It was a bad game. We did not deserve to win," Ibrahimovic told reporters.
"The team has not been good and we never found our rhythm. This is a good wake-up call. Every game is difficult and we must stay focused."
