After the departure of Steve Sarkisian from Washington to go on and join USC, the Huskies have hired quarter-back coach Marques Tuiasosopo as their new interim coach.
The Huskies won eight of their 12 games in the season, but had a bad spell losing three games in a row against Stanford, Oregon and Arizona State.
But with coach Sarkisian leaving to go to USC, athletic director Scott Woodward has decided to hire Tuiasosopo as the new interim coach ahead of their bowl game on Sunday.
"I am humbled and so honoured. We still have a lot to play for this season, and I am excited to go out and get a ninth win for the Huskies."
Tuiasosopo went to Washington College before playing his professional career at Oakland Raiders and New York Jets.
After retiring from the sport, the Californian born quarter-back went to Washington for a year followed by two years at UCL, then decided to head back to the Huskies to become their quarter back coach.
However, there was speculation that defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox would have been the ideal replacement for Steve Sarkisian. But Washington quarter-back Keith Price recently stated that his team are still going to put in quality performances, whoever gets the job.
"Whatever decision is made we are going to roll with it. We're going to perform to the best of our abilities."
The Huskies last game was against USC which they won 27-17, with the Huskies scoring a massive 17 points in the 3rd quarter to put the tie in their favour.
Their next game is on Sunday in The Alma Mater bowl, to which their opponents haven't been named yet.
