In the final part of this Wrestlemania series we look at another huge dream match, as we look at the possibility of The Undertaker defending his streak against 'The Icon' Sting.

The Undertaker vs. Sting

There is no man in the history of professional wrestling who has had as much success without ever joining the WWE, than ‘The Icon’ Sting.

He secured legendary status in WCW where he was a three time WCW World Tag Team Champion, one time NWA World Champion and six time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

During his 14-year stint in WCW he had matches with legends like Randy Savage, Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan. Sting also competed in the final WCW match in history against Ric Flair on WCW Nitro.

During his ten-year TNA career he has been TNA World Tag Team Champion, NWA World Champion and four time TNA World Heavyweight Champion, while also becoming the first ever TNA Hall of Famer.

The WWE has acknowledged Sting’s legendary career in the past, naming him the greatest United States Champion, greatest superstar in WCW history and the greatest wrestler never to perform in WWE. The WWE has tried to sign Sting multiple times in the past but have failed on every occasion, with Sting opting to stay in TNA in recent years.

But now, everything is changing. TNA is making huge steps backward, while the owners are looking to jump ship as soon as possible. TNA tried to challenge WWE once again by taking their Impact TV show on the road but the move failed, just like when they decided to move Impact to Monday nights to compete with RAW.

They have also cut some of their high earning talents, even choosing to let Hulk Hogan leave the company.

Now that Hogan has left TNA, Sting is the highest earner, reportedly earning around $1m dollars per year. Taking in mind that Sting doesn’t work full time in TNA, that is not good value for money for TNA and if they choose to allow Sting to leave at the end of his contract, they would be able to sign a number of new wrestlers.

When asked if he would want to face The Undertaker at Wrestlemania Sting said, “who wouldn’t want to compete at Wrestlemania at least once.”

Sting’s contract ends at the end of the year, meaning he will be able to go to WWE and build a feud against The Undertaker at Wrestlemania.

What makes The Undertaker vs. Sting such a huge dream match is that in many ways they are one and the same.

Both men have a dark character, both like to scare their opponent and both like to turn off the lights and make an appearance. Sting was the biggest icon in WCW and now TNA, while The Undertaker is arguably the biggest icon in the WWE. Put the two together at Wrestlemania and the fan reaction will be spectacular.

Many fans argue that both The Undertaker and Sting have long passed their best days in the ring but as we found out at Wrestlemania 18, sometimes it’s not the quality of a match which makes it memorable.

The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan match at Wrestlemania can only be described as dismal but the incredible fan reaction throughout the match as two of the greatest superstars in the history of the WWE clashed for the first time.

I would say that Sting and Undertaker are more capable than Hogan was ten years ago and would be able to put on a decent match at Wrestlemania, however just the aura that would surround this match would make it one of the most memorable matches in Wrestlemania history.

Will it happen? I’m leaning towards yes, as all the pieces are seemingly falling into place for the match to take place. It’s in everyone’s interest for this match to take place, especially the fans, and if this huge dream match is ever going to take place it will happen in four months’ time at the biggest wrestling extravaganza of all time, Wrestlemania 30.
