Steven Gerrard has earned a nomination on the midfield shortlist for the FIFPro World XI.

The team, voted for by professional footballers around the world, will be revealed on January 13 - but until then the nominees for each position are being revealed day-by-day.

So far the shortlists for the goalkeepers and defenders have been announced - and today FIFPro have revealed the list of midfielders up for a spot in the final XI.

The Liverpool midfielder is joined by his former team-mate at Anfield Xabi Alonso, and Premier League rival Mesut Ozil, who joined Arsenal from Real Madrid in the summer.

Despite his advancing years, Gerrard is still a mainstay of the Liverpool midfield under manager Brendan Rodgers, but has dropped into a deeper position.

Spanish giants Barcelona have three players on the list in Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Sergio Busquets, while reigning European Champions Bayern Munich also have three: Bastian Schweinsteiger, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

Manchester City's Yaya Toure also earned a nod, while the world's most expensive player Gareth Bale is included as well.

Completing the list are Isco, Marco Reus, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.

Who do you think deserves a place on the list? Have they missed anyone out? Leave your comments below!
