Real Madrid set sights on Liverpool defender

Real Madrid want to bring Liverpool full-back Glen Johnson to the Bernabeu, reports the Daily Mail.

The English international continues to be monitored by the Bernabeu outfit and could now head to Spain. However with Johnson currently earning over £100,000-a-week at Anfield, the defender would have to lower his wage packer in order to move to La Liga.

Liverpool are not looking to sell the full-back, however Brendan Rodgers' side seem reluctant to offer him a new deal at the club which could tempt the 29-year-old to part ways with the Merseyside outfit.

Real Madrid have signed a number of players over the past few years from the Premier League. The likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have all headed to the Bernabeu from England's elite division.

And Madrid have previously taken stars from Anfield to the club before with the likes of Michael Owen and more recently Xabi Alonso moving to Spain.

With Madrid in search of a new full-back, it remains to be seen whether the Spanish giants will step up in their pursuit of the Liverpool man.
