Manchester United manager David Moyes is keen on signing Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman in January to solve his side's midfield problems, reports the Daily Star.
Moyes is desperate to add an established holding midfielder to his ranks when the transfer window re-opens in the new year.
And reports suggest the Old Trafford boss has identified long-term Manchester United target Strootman as one of several midfielders who could move to the Premier League champions in January.
United coach Phil Neville was recently sent on a scouting mission to watch Strootman in action.
Neville travelled to Amsterdam to cast his eye over the Roma star in last month's friendly clash between Holland and Colombia.
Strootman, who was linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer, joined Serie A side Roma in the summer for £17million.
The tough-tackling 23-year-old has hit the ground running at the Stadio Olimpico, starring in 13 of Roma's opening 14 league games.
United will probably have to pay a significant amount more than Roma forked out for the Dutchman in the summer, given the fact that he has been so impressive for Rudi Garcia's side so far this season.
