The eight best players to never win the Champions League (3)

Fabio Cannavaro

Fabio Cannavaro proved himself to be one of the finest defenders of his generation during a career spent almost entirely in his native Italy.

Despite being relatively short for a central defender, the 5ft 9inch Cannavaro captained Italy to 2006 World Cup glory and picked up the FIFA World Player of the Year award in the same year.

At club level Cannavaro did enjoy success in Europe as part of the Parma side that won the 1999 Uefa Cup, but never got his hands on the ultimate prize.

The former Italy captain is unfortunate not to have tasted Champions League glory having spent time at footballing giants Inter Milan, Juventus and Real Madrid.
