Arsenal held in pulsating draw with Toffees

.

Arsenal and Everton played out a pulsating 1-1 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Mesut Ozil opened the scoring late for the Gunners in the second-half with a close-range finish, but Gerard Deulofeu equalised four minutes later to earn his side a share of the spoils.

The Toffees made a fine start to proceedings at the Emirates Stadium, and were the better side for large parts of the match. However, tiredness seemed to take hold towards the later stages of the period, and the Gunners had chances to open the scoring.

Tim Howard made a fine save from an offside Olivier Giroud, and also denied the in-form Aaron Ramsey to keep the scores level at the break.

Wojciech Szczesny made some fine saves from long range in second-half for Arsene Wenger's side, and it looked like it could be crucial when Ozil smashed home on 80 minutes.

The German international smashed into the roof of the net following a header across goal from Theo Walcott, with Giroud's complete miss-kick not having an impact.

It was a lead that didn't last long however, with Barcelona loanee Deulofeu showing just why Roberto Martinez wanted him so badly at Goodison Park.

Ross Barkley made the goal for his teammate, and after Romelu Lukaku missed his audacious overhead-kick, Deulofeu did the rest.

Giroud hit the crossbar in injury-time as Arsenal pushed for a winner, but the result means Arsene Wenger's side move five-points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
