Arsenal are poised to make a sensational January attempt at luring Liverpool star Glen Johnson away from Anfield, according to Sport.

Recent speculation has prompted rumours that the England international is seeking a new challenge in his career and has refused to put pen to paper on a contract extension, despite Brendan Rodgers' best efforts.

The 29-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal with Liverpool, but Arsene Wenger is believed to be interested in bringing the right-back to the Emirates with a view for replacing the potentially out-going Bacary Sagna.

Sagna is widely expected to leave the Premier League leaders this summer, with a move to either Monaco or Paris Saint-Germain on the cards. Subsequently Johnson finds himself on Wenger's radar, and could be tempted with a move if Arsenal maintain their dominant form at the division's summit.

The ex-Chelsea star is also a rumoured target for Spanish giants Real Madrid, so Wenger may have to make up his mind sooner rather than later if he is to be successful in any approach.
