Mega-rich English giants Manchester City could make a huge bid to secure the services of Germany No.1 Manuel Neuer, according to the Express.
The paper is claiming that City manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to resolve his defensive problems and sees Neuer as the man for the job.
Yet Neuer, 27, will come at a hefty price, with City owners having to part with a minimum of £40million- not including the goalkeeper's weekly wages.
Insiders say he will be offered a weekly salary of £105,000, which would make him the highest-paid stopper in football.
The move would be a blow to England No.1 Joe Hart, who has had a turbulent few months between the sticks. He had formerly hoped that he could secure a long-term spot for City.
Meanwhile Pellegrini has confirmed that Hart will be in goal for the Champions League trip to Bayern Munich on Tuesday.
It is another question whether Neuer would like to replace his spot in Bayern's all-conquering squad with City's mega-expensive project. The Germany 'keeper has excelled in his role at the very heart of the Bavarians' defence, and may not want to risk his status as the best stopper in the world by moving to the Etihad.
Yet money can have the final say and next year we could be seeing Neuer making outstanding saves week-in-week-out throughout stadiums in the Premier League.
